Services

This page describes various services offered by the IT/ASD group. Typically, these are distinguised from libraries and packages by the fact that there are a number of servers and hardware involved.

Overview

The IT/ASD group currently runs three services, in collaboration with other IT groups, most particularly IT/PDP, who run the hardware on which the main servers run.

The FATMEN service

FATMEN consists of three main components: The FATMEN API and shell are distributed through the normal CERNLIB channels, which also includes the various servers. However, there are a number of considerations relating to server setup. and management. See also the installation section of the manual.

Various papers on Mass Storage and storage related issues, including information on the IEEE Computer Society Reference Model for Mass Storage Systems can be found here

The HEPDB service

HEPDB consists of three main components: The HEPDB API and shell are distributed through the normal CERNLIB channels, which also includes the various servers. However, there are a number of considerations relating to server setup and management.
