Services
This page describes various services offered
by the IT/ASD group. Typically, these are
distinguised from libraries and packages
by the fact that there are a number of
servers and hardware involved.
Overview
The IT/ASD group currently runs three services,
in collaboration with other IT groups, most
particularly IT/PDP, who run the hardware on
which the main servers run.
FATMEN consists of three main components:
- A set of Fortran callable library routines (API), contained in PACKLIB
- A command line interface ("shell")
- A set of distributed file catalogues and associated servers
- The main server for this purpose at CERN is the
fatcat server.
The FATMEN API and shell are distributed through the normal CERNLIB
channels, which also includes the various servers. However, there
are a number of considerations relating to server
setup.
and management.

installation
section of the manual.

The HEPDB service
HEPDB consists of three main components:
- A set of Fortran callable library routines (API), contained in PACKLIB
- A command line interface ("shell")
- A set of distributed file catalogues and associated servers
- The main server for this purpose at CERN is the
hepdb server.
The HEPDB API and shell are distributed through the normal CERNLIB
channels, which also includes the various servers. However, there
are a number of considerations relating to server
setup and management.
